Beck Song Reader
7digital What we said: Call us old-fashioned, but if a record’s written but neither committed to tape nor performed in public, can you really call it an album? Well, Beck had the temerity to in 2012 – sharing Song Reader solely as sheet music – and Rolling Stone magazine backed him up by naming it amongst their top 50 albums of the year. Happily, Mr Hansen has since had a change of heart, and is now granting Song Reader a conventional release, albeit with an unconventional twist: every single track here is performed by a different artist. Featuring interpretations by acts as disparate as Jarvis Cocker and Fun, Norah Jones and Sparks, and Jack Black and Loudon Wainwright III, this is unquestionably the most diverse album that Beck has ever put his name to.
