7digital What we said: If this really is to be MIA’s final album, who will be capable of filling the void she leaves behind? It’s certainly difficult to imagine another major British artist as fiercely independent, not to mention politically-engaged or sonically adventurous. AIM’s stupendous opening track serves as a timely reminder of all of MIA's irreplaceable qualities. Blending heavy bass and hip hop beats with a snaking, Eastern-inspired riff, ‘Borders’ critiques Europe’s response to the refugee crisis and the solipsistic nature of connected culture. Other highlights include the defiant ‘Finally’, bonus track ‘The New International’, ‘Visa’ (which samples ‘Galang’s “Ya ya hey” refrain) and ‘Bird Song’, her first collaboration with Diplo since ‘Paper Planes’. Here's hoping that AIM doesn't turn out to be MIA’s swansong.
