7digital What we said: It’s hard to believe that the prolific Conor Oberst has now spent a staggering 16 years altruistically sharing his surfeit of ideas across all manner of collaborations, side-projects and solo-work. Having now reached the ripe old age of 31, he may be no longer eligible for the “wunderkind” tag but his prodigious talent is as strongly in evidence on The People’s Key as it’s ever been. Eschewing the rootsy-Americana of Cassadaga for a diverse musical platter imbued with lyrical mysticisms, his eighth long player has been mooted as his final under the Bright Eyes-banner. And whilst this rumour remains unconfirmed, we can only hope it's the latest in a long line of excellent albums and not a brilliant swansong.
