7digital What we said: Going on the recent additions to Domino’s illustrious roster, one might be forgiven for suspecting their Head of A&R has a Hitchcock-esque blonde fetish. First up was pocket-sized femme fatale Anna Calvi, and now, hot on her heels, come Austra, a Toronto-based trio led by the flaxen-haired, former opera singer Kate Stelmanis. Fortunately (for everyone) both are as talented as they are attractive. But whilst Calvi relies on fiery tales of dark desire to captivate, Austra ooze an altogether icier cool. Occupying a sonic realm somewhere between The Knife, Adult. and Depeche Mode, Feel It Break offers up a slew of gothic synthwave, filled with fluttering, robotic rhythms, synthetic sounds and Stelmanis’ glorious cut-glass vocal tremelo. A truly bewitching debut.
